Mathematician, Fields medal laureate in 2010, Doob Prize laureate in 2014, Member of the French Parliament, Author of France's artificial intelligence strategy

Cédric Villani is a French mathematician, awarded with the 2010 Fields Medal and laureate of the 2014 Doob Prize. Professor of the University of Lyon, he was visiting Miller professor at the University of Berkeley, Princeton and GeorgiaTech then director of the Henri Poincaré Institute from 2009 to 2017 from which he resigned at the time of his election as deputy of the Essonne.

 

At the National Assembly, he is member of the Law Commission and chairs the Parliamentary Office for the Assessment of Scientific and Technological Choices. In fact, Cédric Villani has always been involved in relations between Sciences and Society. He is a member of the Academy of Sciences and Ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

 

He animated lectures in more than 70 countries, published several works, including the best-seller Birth of a Theorem: A Mathematical Adventure translated into 12 languages. He participated in numerous Scientific Councils with public institutions - including the European Commission - or private ones (Scientific Council of Orange, EDF, Atos and BCG).

 

Cédric Villani is a former student of the École normale supérieure, doctor of mathematics and qualified to supervise researches. He is doctor honoris causa of several universities including HEC Paris. He is a Knight of the Legion of Honor and VP of the EuropaNova think-tank.

On 8 September 2017, French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe tasked Cédric Villani with a mission on artificial intelligence (AI). His goal was to lay the foundations of an ambitious French strategy in the AI field. Read Cedric Villani's report on "AI for Humanity".
